ROOMS WITH A VIEWStephanie Goto of Goto Design knows a good thing when she sees it: When she accepted the assignment of fashioning a look for Maritime Parc, she didn’t try to compete with the restaurant’s singular, spectacular views of the Manhattan skyline and the landmarks of the Hudson River, including the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, and the Verrazano Bridge. Goto, whose firm was behind the dynamic look of restaurants as diverse as the serene Corton, the urban-yet-rustic Aldea, the sleek Morimoto, and the mammoth, high-energy Buddakan, has created a no-less-compelling visual character for Maritime Parc. Modern, clean, horizontal lines offer unobstructed views of the marina and the splendors of the Hudson beyond, while interior spaces are adorned with natural canvas, sailcloth white, and masculine striped furnishings. From the dining room, a trio of French doors face north, offering picturesque views and opening up to the split-level stone patio outside, while a 350-bottle wine display emphasizes the restaurant’s devotion to all aspects of the dining experience. Another highlight is the Chef’s Table with views of both the open kitchen and the Marina. Upstairs, in Maritime Parc’s two private event spaces, Goto’s design takes its cue from the vaulted wood ceiling that evokes a New England meeting house. The room is flooded with sunlight by day, the fiery orange of sunset at the cocktail hour, and by night offers one of the most stunning possible views of what writer Scott Fitzgerald once called the “evening gem-play of New York.” Goto has also smartly separated the restaurant from the private-events spaces through dedicated entrances and separate coat checks and services, ensuring that the two experiences remain distinct. |
